GDMBR in Big Sky Country

Montana offers some of the most challenging sections of the GDMBR route.  You’re in Grizzly Bear territory, so be sure to be ‘Bear Safe.’ That means hanging all food in a tree when camping and being alert and making noise so as not to surprise a bear, particularly a mother with cubs.

As you crank the pedals through Flathead National Forest, you’ll be encircled by larch, spruce, Douglas fir, lodgepole pine and ripe huckleberries. The later is favorite treat for hungry bears. The area is dotted with fresh, crystal clear lakes just beckoning you to plunge in. The perfect way to cool off on a hot August afternoon.
